Xiaoxuan Liang, Visiting Scholar

Xiaoxuan Liang is a Visiting Scholar at the MTSU Center for Chinese Music and Culture and a faculty member at Hangzhou Normal University. She is an Erhu and Morin Khuur (Matou Qin) performer and holds a Master’s degree in Chinese Orchestral Music Performance (Erhu) from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

She has worked as Performer & Assistant Researcher at the Oriental Musical Instrument Museum of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, delivering Erhu and Morin Khuur workshops. She conducts research on silk‑string erhu, dedicated to exploring timbral variations across different string instruments, and comparative performance techniques of Erhu and Morin Khuur through Mongolian‑style musical works. She has given two recitals at Shanghai Conservatory, alongside two solo concerts: one a Qin‑style Erhu recital, and the other featuring Mongolian‑style compositions performed on both Erhu and Morin Khuur.

Her honors include the First-Class Postgraduate Scholarship (top of her master’s cohort), the Golden Statue Award from the 8th US Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival, and the Professional Youth Group A Gold Award at the “Huayun Cup” International Competition. She dedicates herself to revealing the beauty of Chinese string instruments to more people through performance and teaching.
